SUMMARY:Barefoot Talks 'Rediscovering Ourselves' by Anne Shivas
DESCRIPTION: \nIn this new series of Barefoot talks Taking Place in April may and June I am delighted to welcome to The Barefoot Sanctuary Our very own neighbour- Anne Shivas. From our first meeting I knew that Anne has a very special message inside her and I’m thrilled that she has birthed that message in her first book of poetry Whit Grace \nJoin us for a magical night of rediscovery as Anne weaves her story and poetry together. also on the night will be a musical addition with an appearance of “The Whole Shebang” \n\n\n\n\n \nAnne’s Bio \nAt 59\, Anne Shivas has just had her first collection of poetry published in the United States in 2017—an accomplishment that would have made her 16-year old self both amazed and delighted. A lover of poetry from that age\, but not seeing poetry as a viable life path\, she pursued other interests\, as a dancer and educator\, until in her thirties she realized that the deepest and truest expression of herself lay in writing poetry and that she needed to take the path that her teenage self could not envisage. It was in writing poetry and being involved with poetry that she felt most truly herself. As a girl in 1970’s Scotland that was hard to imagine\, and even her enjoyment of poetry had felt fugitive! Her book “Whit Grace” was formed over the next 20 years or so in a life that took her from Jerusalem\, Israel during the first Gulf war\, to a rhythmic rural life in Vermont\, with long spells spent in North Berwick\, East Lothian. The poems also explore her early life in Scotland\, rediscovering her Scots-language heritage as a literary statement\, as she rediscovered her true self. She received her MFA in poetry from Drew University\, NJ in 2011. \nAs always we will start the evening with a cuppa and some of Ailey Mae’s raw Chocolate. I hope you can join us. After Anne’s talk you will get an opportunity to ask her questions and buy your own signed copy of the book. \n \nReserve your seat via Paypal here. \n\n\n\n\nWith love. \n \n \nUpcoming Barefoot Talks \nMay 31st – Jennifer Main – Who Might You Be without The Labels? \nJune 28th – Lester Smulski –“The Power of Hypnotherapy –Playing with the Impossible and making it Real” \n \n \n
