So who the heck is your GOD?

The God who will reward us for being good? The God who judges us? The God who gets angry and punishes us? The God who loves us and wants the best for us? The Source that loves us unconditionally? God ??? There is no God? Is there? Which one sounds like YOUR God? Now this will be obvious to some and that's the thing, as which ever one we believe, is exactly the one we will get. That's how the…

Is it time to throw away more STUFF?

Ever since I left the Priory in 2010 I have been on a mission to declutter, realising the need to let go of the past, both in my environment and my head. I do it for a few days, it's feels amazing and then before I know what's happened I'm knee deep in the stuff again. It's almost like it just creeps up on me and I don't even notice it's happening until it's too late. Ultimately the cull has…

Forgiveness

Raised as a Roman Catholic, never far from my ears was the word ‘forgiveness’, and sayings like ‘God forgive you’ or, more morosely, ‘I'll never forgive myself’. ‘I’ll never forgive you’ were words that flavoured my existence. Weekly at mass on a Sunday we would ask for forgiveness, born as sinners constantly needing to repent.   Recently I received a message from someone telling me ' I was forgiven' for hurt I had caused and as I absorbed this message…

Are boats made to sit in the harbour? Hmm not likely..

I'm sitting in the Scottish seabird centre cafe right by the window . Outside the sun is shinning and there are lots of people out on the deck. My view is completely unspoiled and I can clearly see, in the distance, the Bass rock, then further out again is the Isle of May and and down on the beach a couple of people are pottering about on the rocks. It truly is a beautiful September morning, and up to 10…

We are, what we dream and believe we are!

The kids went back to school last week and it feels really okay, really, really okay. It's now time for us all to learn new things again to get some structure into our day, the long lies and late nights have to stop and yet we will hopefully still embrace the late summer weather where we can. There are still, some new fun things yet to be done, like harbour jumping when we get the nerve up (as my kids…

“This is the life you’ve been given, so open your eyes and start living” Take That.

Hearing this song, "The garden", by Take That, 4 years ago changed everything for me. As I stood in Hamden Park, Glasgow, surrounded by thousands of fellow fans, listening to this song, particularly the line "this is the life you've been given, so open your eyes and start living", the words hit me like an electric jolt. The irony is that when I woke up that morning in June 2009, I was not aware that I would be standing in…

“You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf.”

Jon Kabat -Zinn said that and he is so right in my book. There I was was surfing along pretty well (I thought). My course for the next few weeks seemed clear lots of exciting things were happening and there were some waves, but I genuinely thought I was doing okay. Sitting here now I can honestly say that the signs of what some people call, the black dog, I call it 'the blackness' was approaching, but amazingly, I was…

What part of you, are you holding back?

On the day that I write this blog this is how it began....I woke up this morning ... Wait for it HAPPY.. Yes the inside happy, that had been eluding me for a few days as my sensitivity barometer had run away with itself again.. (Yes it appears I had let the dog drive the car again). What was that made me happy? Well it was a knowingness, that its all going to be okay, all of it, that I'm…

How are you fuelling your progress?

How are you fuelling your progress? Earlier this week after attending the funeral of a bright star, a gorgeous lady called Anita, I have been reflecting on something that she said to me a couple of years ago. This came about after I had recalled her words, to her Son. Those words, whilst significant within the context of the enviroment at the time, have proven to be ever more significant for every aspect of my life since, and as I…

feeling the fear and doing it anyway is all very good but how do we learn to recognise that feeling as a friend not a foe?

Okay so like many of you no doubt I had read the book by Susan Jeffers "Feel the fear and do it anyway". For me it was over 20 years ago, thanks to our little stint in networking marketing. (Yes it was Amway but as life has proved everything happens for a reason so, no regrets.) Anyway I remember, it sort of helped me at the time and, one occasion in particular that jumps to mind, was preparing to telling my…
